Our school has the English Festival tomorrow.  It will not be held at school.  We will take our students to a public hall.  Only 27 students are going to give a speech.  The other 550 students are going to listen.  Just listening to speeches.  But these speeches will be beyond their comprehension because they are delivered in English.  The complexity of the English used in these speeches is not originally so high, but teachers have edited again and again to improve the quality of the speeches.  

As a result, most of the students cannot understand.  They are not already their own sometimes.  I feel awkward.  Who is this contest for?

明日は英語フェスティバルだ。学校ではなく公共のホールで開催される。たった２７人のスピーチのために他の約５５０人が聞く。ただひたすら聞くのだ。しかし、そのスピーチは彼らの理解を超えている。英語で行われるからだ。英語の複雑さは元々は大したものではないのだが、この間教員による編集が重ねられている。結果が英語の質は高まっても生徒には理解できないものが出来上がる。もはや彼らのスピーチではない。ぎこちなさを感じるし、このコンテストは誰のためなのだろう。

Treasuring the tradition of the school is important.  But if we want to preserve this even as our tradition, we need to evaluate and review it and improve our management for the future.  If we are not to do this, we should consider discontinuance of the event.  I was here five years ago.  This event was disorganized. I came back here this year, but this event is still disorganized.  It is time to stop.  We can make this event smaller and hold this at school.  We can finish  this event within half a day, and it can still motivate students who are eager to improve their English.  

  

学校の伝統を大切にすることは大切である。しかし、もしもこれを伝統として保持したいのならば、、私たちは評価反省し、未来のためにそのマネジメントを改善するべきである。もしもそうする気がないのであれば、私たちはこの行事の廃止を検討するべきである。５年前もここにいた。その時もこの行事はグダグダだった。今ここに戻ってきても、未だにグダグダである。もう潮時だろう。この行事を縮小し、半日行事に抑えればよい。それでも英語に励む生徒は十分に伸ばすことはできる。
