Today is the deadline of the 1st optional reading assignment.
Two students missed the deadline.
I refused to accept their late work, though I had a feeling that they made efforts anyway.
Maybe it was the time to discipline them,
but I had already decided to have this an "optional" assignment,
because I had known that I would not have  enough time to take care of such students that far in this time of the school year.
I believe that my students might need some experience in which they fail to benefit due to not following the rule.
I had three hours free from lessons today.
I was marking and correcting their assignments,
put extra explanation on the answer key.
I managed to return the assignments by the time they left school.

After school, when the English Department meeting was done, I had a little time.
I jumped into studying teaching materials and making lesson plans.
It has been a while since I last time worked on lesson plans weekdays.

Although I've been trying to make "student-centered" lessons,
I have realized that students are getting tired of studying.
I still suspect that "English lessons in English" may cause serious troubles to students who already have difficulty keeping up with the class.
As I compared a variety of data, the number of students at lower proficiency levels is increasing.
It is so easy to blame students for not studying hard,
but this does not make me confident in my teaching.
I would like to feel that I'm one of those who should be teachers.

I'm still looking for the way in which students try hard and they become proficient in English.
